Description

Tabriz Shahi Rug

Persian rugs have been handwoven in the ancient city of Tabriz, northwestern Iran, since the fifteenth century.

Recent Tabriz rugs woven in and around the city of Tabriz are workshop productions. They are usually double-wefted with a cotton foundation and a symmetrical knot. Knot densities range from about 40 to 400 knots per square inch.

Raj is the measurement used to differentiate between qualities of Tabriz rugs. This measurement of knot fineness refers to the number of knots vertically across 7cm inches of a rug. Typical measurements are ’30 Raj’, ’40 Raj’. Fine ’60 Raj’ qualities are typically woven on a silk foundation.

Many stunning designs are found in Tabriz rugs, including the classic Mahi Tabriz Fish, Shahi, Heriz and hunting designs.

The beautiful colour palettes and complementing designs of Tabriz rugs make them an attractive choice for those looking to add a sense of elegance and luxury to a setting.
