Nain Rug

From the early 1930s, skilled workshop weavers have finely knotted rugs in the town of Nain, central Iran.

Nain rugs are a popular choice for their soft and calming colour palette of ivory and complementing sky and navy blues. These rugs are nearly always composed of high quality and soft wool piles with ivory highlights of silk.

Nain rugs are known for their fineness, with densities between 200 and 800 asymmetric knots per square inch. ‘La’ is the measurement if finesses of Nain rugs, with qualities available in 4La, 6La and 9La, where ‘La’ in Farsi means layer. These fineness indicators refer to the number of the layers of the threads that have been used in every horizontal warp-threads during the manufacturing of the Nain rug. The lower the number, the finer and higher density the knots the rug has.

Designs are similar to rugs of the neighbouring city of Isfahan but are identifiable by their stunning pastel colour palette of ivory and hues of blue.

Our recent colleciton of Nain Indo rugs are hand woven in Jaipur, India using high-quality NZ wool and silk inlay. The classic Nain Persian design has been appropriated to suit Australian tastes and decors.
