Description

8×11 ISFAHAN – RUG

Isfahan rugs are named after the city of Isfahan in Iran. During the reigns of Shah Tahmasp and Shah Abbas in the 16th century, several royal factories were established for the manufacture of handmade rugs in Isfahan. These royal factories were often under direct court supervision. At this stage, carpet weaving in Persia ceased to be purely a nomadic or village way of life and instead became a sophisticated art form, based on intricate designs first laid out in the form of paintings. Today Isfahan rugs are consistently amongst the finest quality workshop rugs available, in terms of both knot count and quality of materials.
